Strategies for Approaching the Autistic Spectrum
During this one -hour webinar, we will discuss cutting edge research and evidence- based strategies that blend older and newer models of treatment for autism. Historically, research has been focused on characteristics of Autism including psychomotor delays, attention problems, neurological insults, and sensory dysfunction. Additionally, language development is often weak in the area of pragmatics and thus, strategies to support pragmatic development will also be discussed. Programs for treating autism will be reviewed such as: Applied Behavior Analysis, which was developed in the 1960s and yet still plays a role in treatment of autistic children. Pivotal Response Training is elaborated and demonstrations of its use are described. The Denver Model is used to demonstrate cutting edge research blending older ABA strategies with newer interpersonal-pragmatic models of treatment.
